After customers complained, Chevron found unsafe levels of water in fuel at 22 Orange County stations, though only seven stations were definitively linked to engine problems, according to a settlement filed Monday in Orange County Superior Court.

The settlement says the company traced the problem to “testing and equipment errors” at its refinery in El Segundo and a terminal in Huntington Beach.
