Sparse insurance remittals fueling concerns for damaged auto owners

BROCKTON – Shawn Rice and his mechanics at Sparky’s Automotive in Whitman have been working around the clock to clean out the fuel tanks of 52 vehicles, and counting. For each vehicle, Rice said mechanics are dropping the fuel tank, cleaning out the contaminated fuel, flushing out all the lines, replacing the fuel injectors and filling the vehicle with the gasoline. The average cost to repair the damaged vehicles is ranging from $2,000 to $3,250, said Rice, who is billing the insurance company of AL Prime Energy directly.
