A bad batch of jet fuel caused delays at airports across the state late last week.
Josh Applegate, a line service technician at Western Edge Aviation in Dickinson, said the fuel service fixed base operator received a call from Tesoro Friday saying the flash point on a recent batch of fuel was too low to burn.
Applegate said Western Edge had to drain its tank, including hand cranking out some 800 gallons.
"I know here we were shut down Saturday," he said.
According to a statement from Tesoro, the refinery "discovered product that was off specification from a batch of jet fuel at our Mandan facility. Tesoro’s jet fuel undergoes rigorous quality assurance testing, and this batch did not meet the flash point specification. Tesoro notified its customers and worked with them to remove and replace the product. All customers have received on specification product to date."
