Mercedes Confirms Warranty Void If Fuel Quality Causes Problem For Gray Imports

Gray imports refers to cars that are brought in other than the official dealers. These gray imports are usually sold at a lower price so many will find the vehicles very tempting. The vehicle brought in are usually labeled UK spec or Japan Spec indicating which country it was originally made for.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia announced that they will no longer accept the warranty of the gray models if it comes in with failures related to fuel quality. The notice specifies that the gray market vehicle with such failures will not be accepted under warranty.

That is because the vehicle was not made to handle the local fuel quality. “The fuel quality in Malaysia does not meet the operational requirement of vehicles produced in other countries. As such, imported vehicles which have not been suitably adapted to the local fuel quality, may experience failures,” explained MBM president and CEO, Roland Folger.
