UNBS Fights Fake Fuel

In a bid to curb fuel adulteration, the Uganda National Bureau of Standards has announced a fuel quality and quantity awareness campaign, as part of activities to mark 25 years of service.

Addressing journalists in Kampala on Wednesday, Dr Ben Manyindo, the UNBS executive director, said the campaign would start on August 18. It will be launched at City Oil, Namirembe road, before extending to stations in Kampala. During the exercise, consumers will witness fuel-testing and fuel pump verification procedures.

UNBS says that fuel adulteration has reduced from 30 per cent in 2009 to less than three per cent in June this year - thanks to its marking and testing.
